A warm terry cloth bathrobe may be exactly what you need to make that cold hotel room comfortable. Unfortunately, it's probably too big to pack. DreamSack's silk Jacquard robe is not. It's made of 100 percent silk, which can keep you cozy if your room is freezing (or keep you cool, if the AC isn't working, for that matter). It is completely washable, air dries quickly, and comes with its own matching silk pouch for packing. Available in sage, golden, ivory, willow, red, and lilac, the robe is suitable for men or women. It costs $85 at www.dreamsack.com, which also lists catalogs and local stores that sell DreamSack products, or at 800-670-7661. You can also find the robes for about $80 at www.momslinenchest.com/dreamjacrob.html; www.comforthouse.com/silkrobe.html; and www.comfortchannel.com/prod.itml/icOid/1089.
A razor with a tubular twist
Remove the cap, twist the barrel, and the Twister Razor slides up and out, ready for use. It fits easily into your toiletries bag, and you don't have to worry about nicking your fingers as you fumble around for it. It costs $6, and can be refilled with most slide-in twin-blade razor cartridge heads. Available through She-Works (800-201-3669, www.she-works.com), but don't be fooled by the name of the catalog – it's great for men, too.
A privacy enforcer
This tiny motion detector could be the key to a good night's sleep in a strange place. Turn it on and point it toward your hotel room door; if anyone walks into the monitored area, an alarm will sound. The device uses a sensitive passive infrared motion sensor and runs on three AA batteries; the infrared beam is not affected by other light sources, like lamps or sunlight. The device, made by Mini Alert, measures 4 inches high by 2. inches wide and 1. inches deep. The alarm can be adjusted to a subtle chime or a blaring 80-decibel siren. It costs about $20 via the Magellan's catalog (800-962-4943) and at www.magellans.com; www.personalarms.com; nservices.com/motion.htm; and www.central-alarms.com.
