Be nice – to yourself

The Burts Bees Head-to-Toe starter kit has sample sizes of everything you need to pamper yourself, all of it made with all-natural ingredients. The clear vinyl bag packs easily and lets you can see exactly what you have left. Trial-size packets of conditioner, facial cleanser, clay masks, and foot creme; tiny bottles of bath oil and body lotion; mini bars of peppermint soap and rosemary mint shampoo bar (shampoo that can’t be spilled); tiny pots of face cream, scrub, cutical cream, hand salve, and lip balm complete the kit. It costs about $9 at many Trader Joe’s stores, or about $12 online at www.burtsbees.com.

Room for a little more security

Slip this door-stop wedge into the crack at the bottom of your hotel room door, and anyone who tries to get in will trigger a shrill alarm that will surely wake you – and everyone nearby. The Door Stop Alarm has an on-off switch and runs on two AA batteries. The 6.-by-1.-by-1.-inch wedge weighs only 5 ounces; it costs $11.85 through the Magellan’s catalog (800-962-4943) or online at www.magellans.com.

Winnipesaukee every which way

Maptech offers a new lake navigation CD-ROM for tourists on their way to explore Lake Winnipesaukee, also known as "The Great Lake" of New Hampshire. The CD holds the latest marine charts from Bizer Corp., along with Maptech’s 3-D charts of the 72-square-mile lake’s floor, aerial photographs, and topographic maps of the lake, its 200-plus islands, and its shoreline. You can print out the charts on your home computer, or plan your outing and download your hiking or boating routes onto a handheld Global Positioning System. The CD-ROM costs about $80 and is available in many marine stores and directly from Amesbury, Mass.-based Maptech (888-839-5551), as well as online at www.bizer.com and www.maptech.com.
