With all the attractions New England boasts about, in time you begin to wonder what the travel books aren't telling you. It struck me that a region so steeped in history, humor, and hardship had to have its share of eccentricities.
I knew the local tourist information offices would plead ignorance, so I turned to Joseph Citro, the Vermont author who has made a career of navigating the Yankee subconscious. Together, we set out on an odyssey of discovery. Here are some of the things we found.
